Batch Mead is seeking a motivated Production Intern interested in learning the hands-on process of craft mead and cider production. This internship will support the production team with daily operations, sanitation, ingredient preparation, bottling, packaging, order fulfillment, and general facility organization.

This is a practical, production-focused internship ideal for someone interested in fermentation, beverage production, small business operations, or craft alcohol. The intern will work closely with the production team and gain exposure to the full process of making mead, from raw ingredients to finished bottles.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Production Intern may assist with:

  • Preparing ingredients such as honey, fruit, yeast, and adjuncts
  • Supporting batch mixing, transfers, fermentation setup, and production timelines
  • Assisting with racking, filtering, stabilization, and bottling preparation
  • Helping with bottling day setup, bottle labeling, packaging, and quality checks
  • Maintaining proper fill levels, label placement, and finished product presentation
  • Cleaning and sanitizing tanks, hoses, pumps, tools, surfaces, and production areas
  • Organizing raw materials, packaging supplies, and production storage areas
  • Tracking basic production details, bottle counts, and process steps
  • Assisting with order fulfillment and general operational tasks as needed
  • Following safety, sanitation, and standard operating procedures at all times

Key Learning Objectives

By the end of the internship, the intern should gain a working understanding of:

  • The basic process of commercial mead production
  • The role of honey, fruit, yeast, fermentation, stabilization, filtration, and packaging
  • Proper sanitation practices in a beverage production environment
  • How production schedules, bottling runs, and batch turnaround are managed
  • How consistency, cleanliness, and documentation affect product quality
  • Basic equipment handling and safety expectations in a light production facility
  • The connection between production, fulfillment, tasting room readiness, and customer experience
  • How a small craft beverage business operates day to day

Ideal Candidate

The ideal intern is dependable, detail-oriented, willing to learn, comfortable with hands-on work, and able to follow instructions carefully. No prior brewing or mead-making experience is required, but an interest in fermentation, craft beverages, food science, hospitality, or small business operations is helpful. This role requires standing, light lifting, cleaning, repetitive tasks, and working in a production environment.
